Superhero School

Walt Disney’s ‘Sky High’ is an action, adventure, comedy & teen crush movie. Sky High is a school for super heroes.

Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano) is the son of Steve (Kurt Russell) and Josie Stronghold (Kelly Preston), who have a real estate business. But most of the world knows them as the super heroes The Commander, who has super strength, and Jetstream, who can fly. Together this team has saved the world from countless villains and disasters, and they are considered to be the greatest super heroes ever!

Will has turned 14, and is finally old enough to join the super hero school. But, unlike his other class mates, he hasn’t come into his powers yet (and he hasn’t told his parents either). The school has a policy that divides the kids into hero or side kick categories based on their abilities. Because Will has no powers, he’s labeled a sidekick. But being a hero or sidekick goes beyond mere labels, it makes a difference as to what classes you are supposed to take.

So Will makes friends with the other side kicks. Layla (Danielle Panabaker), his next door neighbor, has been his best friend since first grade since she told him that her mom was a super hero and that she had powers too. Of course it’s hard not to notice something is different when the plant you have for a science project grows really, really well and fast! Luckily Layla is also labeled a side kick and he gets to take classes with her. Other sidekicks, or hero support, are Zack (Nicholas Braun) who can glow in the dark, Ethan (Dee-Jay Daniels) who melts into a puddle, and Magenta (Kelly Vitz) who can turn into a guinea pig.

Like normal high schools, there are kids that are annoying and bullies. There are two bullies, Speed (Will Harris) who has obviously has super speed and Lash (Jake Sandvig) who can stretch himself a long ways. Even worse is the kid with a temper who can make and control fire named Warren Peace (Steven Strait). And he happens to be born of a super hero mom and a villain father. A villain who Will’s parents put away in prison for three life times. So of course Warren has a chip on his shoulder and an extreme dislike for Will.

But all that changes when Will gains his super power and is relabeled a hero. Suddenly he’s treated better and gaining new friends and the attention of a cute older girl named Gwen (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). But everything is not as it seems, for not everyone in the super hero school is necessarily good. One of Will’s parents’ old nemesis, Royal Pain, is out to take revenge on them and their son, and has connections inside the school!

This is a fun film and it’s only PG. There are other great actors in this film. Like the fact that Lynda Carter plays Principle Powers of the Sky High School, when years earlier she played Wonder Woman. Other actors are Bruce Campbell, Dave Foley, Keven Heffernan, Cloris Leachman, Kevin McDonald, and Jim Rash). You can buy it in DVD, Blu-ray, or instant video formats.
