‘Secrets’ by Robin Jones Gunn is book 1 in the Glenbrooke
Series of 8. This is a contemporary Christian romance series. Each book can be
read separately, but Glenbrooke is a small town where everyone knows everyone,
so you will run across other people from the other books in the series.
Jessica Morgan wants to leave her old life in California
behind. So she contacts an old English teacher of hers, a Hugh McGregor, and
they talk. Turns out he’s now the principle of a high school in the small town
of Glenbrooke, Oregon. The school is in need of an English teacher and Jessica
has the credentials. So she packs up her stuff, buys herself a car, and heads
to Oregon. Everything seems to be going great until she reaches the outskirts
of town and has an accident. So much for her wonderful new beginning!
Kyle Buchanan, who is a firefighter, saw Jessica’s car go
off the road and called for backup. For some reason he’s drawn to her, even
after he realizes that she carries secrets. But he can’t complain about secrets
when he has one of his own. But he certainly understands about the burden he
feels while he keeps it.
While Jessica is recovering from her accident, she finds
that Mr. McGregor has had a stroke. Not to mention her medical bill takes most
of the rest of her cash. And her car is a wreak, and she doesn’t have insurance
on it!
Kyle and her landlady, Ida Dane, are real nice and help
out. But being from the city, she’s not used to all this friendly helping from
strangers. Of course the fact that Kyle’s cute and being really nice to her
helps her accept his help a little more. She makes another friend when she goes
to the school for the teacher’s meetings before school starts. But she also
makes an enemy of the replacement principal, Ms. Charlotte Mendelson. And to
top it off, Charlotte likes Kyle and tries her best to get him to notice her! Jessica
goes through a lot and at times it feels like the world is suddenly against
her. But she learns that it’s all in God’s plan to help her draw closer to him.
This is a wonderful book and one of my favorites from
this series. Even if you don’t read all of the books, I would recommend this
one to anyone 14+. It comes in book and e-book formats.
