‘Orchard Valley Brides’ by Debbie Macomber has two clean
romances. The first story picks up shortly after the book titled Orchard Valley
Grooms. This is about the third sister. The second story is about her friend
who was mentioned in the other stories.
The first story is called ‘Norah’. Norah Bloomfield is
the third sister. In the previous book, her father had a heart attack. When he
came out of surgery, he claimed that he had talked to his dead wife and that
she showed him who each of his daughters will marry and their children!
The story starts with Norah working at the hospital as a
nurse when a man comes in who survived a plane crash. The small plane had
actually crashed on Bloomfield property. The only person on board was Rowdy
Cassidy, Valerie’s former boss! It turns out that Rowdy had come to stop
Valerie from marrying Colby, even though the wedding is tomorrow! (Read the
story titled ‘Valerie’ from the first book.) Of course with Rowdy in surgery
and then under medication, there’s no way he can even attend the wedding, let
alone stop it.
Rowdy is a hard man to deal with once he’s awake. He is a
rich man who owns his own company and is used to getting everything he wants
and asks for. He has the entire hospital hopping it seems. Like many men who are
injured, especially when they are stuck in bed, he is practically impossible to
please it seems. But for some reason, the only nurse he’s OK with is Norah. He
even talks to someone higher up and gets her reassigned from the ER, where she
works, to his floor so he can see her rather than the other nurses.
‘Lone Star Lovin’ is the name of the second story. This
is about Sherry Waterman who is Norah’s friend and who used to date Colby
before he met Valerie. Sherry has taken a new job of being a nurse, physician’s
assistant, and midwife in a small Texas town called Pepper.
She decides to stop at Pepper for lunch before she
continues on her way to Houston to see her friend Norah Cassidy who’s been
married four years. When she introduces herself, the townspeople get excited
and the next thing she knows, the doc has left early for fishing and will be
gone a week or more and he’s the only doctor in town! And she’s not due to
start work for another two weeks according to her contract! But no one is
listening to what she’s telling them! And her friend Norah is expecting her to
come soon! Boy this town is mighty friendly, but not too keen on hearing what
they don’t want to hear it seems.
Cody Bailman has been widowed for ten years and has a
twelve year old daughter named Heather. Because of his rough marriage, he had
decided to not marry again. But his daughter wants siblings and doesn’t like
the fact that her father will be alone after she graduates. So her 4-H project
this year is to find her dad a wife! (And everyone in town knows this and
razzes Cody about it!) Once Cody’s seen Sherry, he decides that he wouldn’t
mind being married to her, but goes about asking her in the wrong way!
Repeatedly!!! (Think Mr. Darcy)
Norah is a great conclusion to the trilogy of the
Bloomfield sisters. And it was interesting that Macomber finished up the series
by doing a story on Sherry. These are both good stories, but be prepared to
read about two very stubborn, infuriating men that you just want to shake them
and tell them what they’re doing wrong! The stories come together in book form
or you can buy them separately in e-book form.
