Mistaken Identity

‘A Texas Sky’ by Lori Wick is a Christian historical romance that takes place in Texas in 1882. It is the second book in the Yellow Rose Trilogy about the three Rawlings brothers.

Dakota James Rawlings is recovering from being shot, five times no less. He was taken to Desmond Curtis’ house to recover. Desmond is also Texas Ranger, and happens to be the person who led Slater to the Lord. He and Dakota’s brothers help lead Dakota to the Lord. When his boss, Marty Bracewell or Brace, sees how bad a shape he’s in, he told Dakota not to come back to work for six months.

Nine weeks later, Dakota’s going stir crazy and ready to get back to work. So he heads to Austin and the Ranger’s headquarters to ask Brace for an assignment. Brace, of course, is mad that he’s shown up early, but gives him an easy job. He’s to take his niece to another town, about two days travel, and then get her on the train so she can go back home to St. Louis.

Darvi Leigh Wingate is in town visiting her Uncle Marty. She also wants to visit a friend of hers but finds that she moved away. Her uncle is too busy to take her, so she decides to find someone on her own to take her. What she doesn’t know is that he’s already asked Dakota to take her.

What should have been an easy assignment becomes something more. One thing after another happens along the way, most of which are bad. Dakota even asks her, “Tell me something, Darvi, does trouble just naturally follow you around?” To make matters worse, Darvi gets mistaken for another woman and gets kidnapped!! It’s up to Dakota to once again get her out of another bad situation.

If after reading this story, you want to read more about Seth Redding you can. In Lori Wick’s Big Sky Dreams’ Series, the third book called Jessie, has Seth’s story. It has before Seth went to Texas, and then when after this book. Seth is the only character that Lori has ever had cross over from one series to another (she wrote Yellow Rose Trilogy first, then the Big Sky Dream Series).

This is a good book and I usually want to read Jessie before I read the third book in this series.
