‘Jesse’ by Lori Wick is a Christian historical romance
and is the third book of three in the Big Sky Dreams trilogy. This series takes
place in Montana Territory in a town called Token Creek. This book starts out
in 1873, which is before the first two books, but later on it jumps ahead to
1884, which is four years after the first two books.
Jesse Wheeler is the last of the Wheelers. Her mother
died three years ago and her father died a year ago. Jesse is an only child,
although she wished she had siblings. Her father has had many part time helpers
over the years so it’s not a big surprise when a man walks into the store
looking for a job.
Seth Redding was headed to Texas to stay with his
half-brother, Eliot McDermott. He fell asleep on the train and woke to find his
money gone, so he got off at the next stop. He knew that he’d have to work his
way to Texas, but he hadn’t expected to need more so soon. He wandered into the
store looking for work. She was pretty and he was quickly smitten with her.
They get married and the author quickly skims through the
first few years of marriage and then Seth leaves. The book then jumps ahead to
after the second book. Seth has returned to town a changed man. Due to the help
of his brother, his sister-in-law, and a few friends, he has given his life to
the Lord. He has returned to ask Jessie’s forgiveness for leaving and to try to
be a part of his wife and daughter’s lives. Little did he know that he would
return to find that Jessie has a second daughter after she left! Jessie didn’t
even know she was pregnant until after he was gone!
Jessie’s not sure if she wants to let Seth back into her
life, but her daughters study any and all men that walk into the store. Clearly
they want to know what it would be like to have a daddy. So Jessie decides to
let Seth spend time with the girls while keeping her guard up around him. But
Jeb, who is her part time worker and cousin, is injured and can’t work, so Seth
has to help around the store like he used to. Working with and spending so much
time around Seth is not what Jessie had planned! How is she to keep away from
him when he’s always there? And Seth is so different now, so much like the man
she married, but better! What’s changed and how long will this change last?
This is a great book, and probably my favorite of the
three. And for those who have read Lori Wick’s second book of the Yellow Rose
Trilogy titled ‘A Texas Sky’, then you would want might want to read this to
learn more about Seth. And for those who haven’t read ‘A Texas Sky’, then I
would suggest that you do read it. Maybe even read it after the first section of
this book and before it starts up again when Seth comes back! It’s such a
change to read about the Seth that first showed up in Token Creek in 1873, to
the Seth in ‘A Texas Sky’ in 1882, and then to the Seth that returned to Token
Creek in 1884. Seth is the only character that Lori has ever had cross over
from one series to another (she wrote Yellow Rose Trilogy first, then the Big
Sky Dream Series).
