The Female Pirate

‘The Red Siren’ by MaryLu Tyndall is a Christian historical romance and is the first book of three in the Charles Towne Belles series. Each book deals with one of three sisters.

Faith Westcott loses her faith in God when several bad things happen to her family. One of these things is that her older sister, Charity, was forced to marry an English lord who was evil and didn’t treat any female well. She then determined that she would protect her and her younger two sisters. So she made a deal with her father. If she can get enough money together, then he won’t force any of them to marry. Faith befriends a man, Lucas, who used to be a pirate. With the help of Lucas, she decides to become a pirate in order to gain the money she needs quickly enough. Together they gathered a crew (who would obey her every order as captain) and set off on the high seas looking for treasure. But she and her crew always stayed close to port so that she would be home every day so no one would be the wiser as to what she did. Including her father who was an admiral in His Majesty’s Royal Navy.

In 1718, Commander Dajon Waite and his ship the HMS Enforcer, are reassigned to Charles Towne, Carolina, in order to stop pirates in the area. His superior is Rear Admiral Henry Westcott, the father of Faith. Admiral Westcott has been given orders to sail to Europe for an undisclosed time and has asked his old friend Dajon to look after his three unmarried daughters while he is away. Dajon will be staying in the guesthouse out behind the house so that he can be close enough to watch over them while still following the rules of propriety. He isn’t too happy with this idea, but the admiral doesn’t give him a choice.

Faith is in a panic. How can she sneak around and take off to get to her ship without Dajon hearing her when she leaves? And what if he recognizes her? She once stole a ship from him! Of course that was several years ago and back in England, but there is always the chance he could remember her! And why is she attracted to him? If he ever found out that she was the pirate known as the Red Siren, then he would hang her for piracy!

Dajon is intrigued by Faith. She seems to run things around the house and tries to avoid him if she can. But Sir Wilhelm Carteret calls at the house for her, and how can he match up to a rich man? The middle sister is Grace and seems lost in her charity works. And Hope, the baby of the family, is seen running around with the wrong type of gentleman! And Lucas, a man who works at the admiral’s house, seems familiar, but where would he have seen him before? This is one assignment that he will be glad when it’s over!

**Spoiler** Although the romance wraps up between the two main characters by the end of the book, the end of the this book and the next have the next sister in trouble, so they are to be continued somewhat.

This is an excellent book and it will keep you in suspense throughout most of the book. If you love stories about pirates or adventures on the high seas, then you should love this book.
