What Happens When The Arcade Closes

'Wreck-It Ralph' is a story is about the video game characters in an arcade and what happens to them when the arcade closes for the day. There are a few rules to the arcade. You have to be in your game doing your job when the arcade opens. You can go to the different games, but only when the arcade is closed. And be careful not to get killed outside of your game, or you will be erased forever!

Ralph is the ‘bad guy’ in the video game called Fix-It Felix Junior. His job is to wreck what Felix Junior makes and the player controls Felix to use his magic fix-it hammer to repair the damage Ralph makes. Ralph lives alone in the garbage. Ralph is tired of being treated as the ‘bad guy’ all the time. It’s even worse since Ralph’s been at his job for 30 years without a friend. But it’s as Ralph says, “It becomes kind of hard to love your job when no one seems to like you for doing it.”

He would like to be friends with the other characters in his game, but they don’t want that. They stick to their programming; Ralph is the bad guy. So they don’t do anything to befriend him after hours. At one point they taunted him that if he can get a medal, then he can live in the apartment building with them. But in order to get his own medal, he has to get it from another game.

He teams up with Vanellope von Schweetz, who’s from another game, in order to get his medal. He makes a mistake and some nasty virus-like bug-monsters are let loose in another game, where there is no way to destroy them. If he and his new friends can’t stop the bugs, then they might just destroy all of the games in the entire arcade!

This is a wonderful story and one where you don’t need to understand about video games to be able to catch on to what’s happening in the story. One of the things I didn’t care for is that there is some name calling in it, which is why this movie is PG. But other than that, it’s a great story with a couple of lessons. And the music is wonderful too.
