To Truly See The Pincess's Heart

‘Frog Prince’ by Jenni James is a clean fairy tale set in historical settings, and is a part of her Faeire Tale Collection. Most of the stories from this collection can be read alone. (So far only two stories are connected and this story isn’t one of them.)

Queen Mary Elizabeth II and Queen Bethany were friends from when they were younger. So when Bethany had a boy and Mary had a girl, they betrothed their children from when they were little.

The time is nearing when Crown Prince Nolan and Princess Blythe will be getting married. They have been writing to each other for some time, but they haven’t really talked about each other as they should have. So Nolan thinks that she’s either completely boring or stuck up. And Blythe thinks that he’s full of himself.

Nolan decides that he’s fed up with reading only her letters and decides that he wants to meet her to assess her true character. But he doesn’t want her to know it’s him. He comes upon a brilliant idea of having the local magic woman turn him into a frog. Most girls find frogs to be disgusting and so he would be able to tell what type of girl she is. He asks for a 30 day transformation with an escape clause. If the princess kisses the frog, he’ll turn back to his human form before the 30 days are up.

Blythe has a special spot where likes to sit by a pond most days. One day she meets a talking frog who promises to help her with something if she’ll give him something in return. She lost an object into the deep part of the pond and he agreed to retrieve it for her. In return he was to be a guest in the castle, so he could spend some time getting to know her.

She, her mother, her two older brothers, and two younger sisters accept an enchanted talking frog pretty well. But they act like magic is somewhat common thing. She names the frog Caspian when he claims the spell won’t let him say his true name, and together they learn about the other. What will she think of him when she finds out who really is he? Will she be mad enough with him to try to break their engagement?

This was an interesting version of the fairy tale in that instead of the spell upon his being a curse, it was to help him learn about his future wife. This story is good for all ages and comes in book and e-book formats.
