This version of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is by Jenni James.
She writes clean fairy tales in historical settings as part of her Faeire Tale
Collection.
Prince Alexander Henry Richard the fourth is handsome on
the outside, but a rude self-centered man on the inside. One day, he angers an
old witch and she casts a spell on him. By day he would be the handsome prince,
but by night he would take wolf form. And I’m not talking about him changing
only on a full moon, but every single night! He has one year to find a female
who would “embrace, accept, and love you for the monster” that he was. If he
doesn’t succeed, then he will remain a wolf for the rest of his life, both day
and night!
Cecelia Hammerstein-Smythe lives with her selfish mother
and her arrogant brother William. She has clashed with Prince Alexander on many
occasions. Why is he suddenly being nice and apologizing? One night as she sits
beside her beloved stream, she sees a wolf. Instead of attacking her, the wolf
starts talking! She isn’t sure what to do with this revelation. But something happens that upsets Cecelia and she runs to her
stream and leaves a message for the wolf to meet her that night. They meet
night after night and she pours out her many woes to him.
Alex, fearing that he won’t find a female to break his
curse in time, decides to train his cousin Lord Bellemount to take his place as
ruler. What he doesn’t realize at first is that his cousin is power hungry and
will do anything to take Alex’s throne. When Alex starts acting strange and
distracted, he fears that he has fallen for someone. He can’t have anyone stand
in his way to the throne, so he will have to throw a wrench in the romance. He
doesn’t know about Alex’s curse, he just knows that Alex isn’t likely to marry
and so Alex is handing him the throne.
Can Alex make Cecelia fall in love with him before the
year is over? Will Lord Bellemount find out about the curse and try to make
sure it doesn’t get broken? If the curse is broken, will Cecelia love Prince
Alex when she learns that he was the wolf?
This book is wonderful for all ages. Jenni James has
written a large collection of fairy tales that are all amazing. Most of them
can be read alone. So far only two stories are connected and this story isn’t
one of them. This book is good for all ages. It comes in book and e-book
formats.
