Lunar by A. M. Evanston is a clean werewolf story.
Scarlet is sixteen and home alone awhile her parents are
on their second honeymoon. She has always been a responsible child, so her
parents weren’t afraid to leave her home alone for a couple weeks. Most kids
her age would have rebelled against all of her parents’ rules, but she felt how
much they loved her and she had great respect for them.
One Saturday while her parents were still gone, Scarlet
Whitney was coming home from shopping, when she was scared by a werewolf. A boy
her age rushed up to her and somehow scared off the werewolf. Then she woke up
the next morning thinking that the whole thing was a dream. She tried to push the dream away and go back
to her normal retinue, but she couldn’t remember how she got back home the
night before.
Alex, short for Alexandria, is Scarlet’s best friend. She’s
a little wild and the opposite of Scarlet’s ‘obey the rules’ personality. Alex convinced
Scarlet that they should go hear a local band. Alex wanted to see the band
because she liked the lead singer, Gage. Scarlet got quite a shock when the
guitarist of the band happened to be the same guy that scared off the werewolf
from her dream! But how could he be the same guy since she had never seen him
before?
After the concert she got the guitarist, Chad, alone. He
tried to convince her that there was no werewolf that night, that she was sort
of asleep on her feet. He told her that he took her home. She truly wanted to
believe him, but things kept happening that made her question whether werewolves
truly were real.
She visited Chad’s house to return the jacket that he had lent her after the concert. While there,
she found that he was eighteen and was being homeschooled. His brother said
something strange and his father didn’t seem to like her. Altogether, his
family was a little strange. An interesting thing was that his family lived on
the outskirts of town where the land was said to be haunted.
This was a good read. There was romance and mystery with
some action and suspense thrown in. This comes in e-book format.
