It’s nearing Christmas time and you’re probably either in or
trying to get into the Christmas spirit. So in honor of the season, I’m going
to suggest a book that might help you with your mood. Many of you might know of Debbie Macomber. She has written over a hundred books and has made the New York
Times & USA bestsellers list of books. Several of her books have even been
made into movies. But enough about the author and on to the book. This is a
review of ‘The Perfect Christmas’ by Debbie Macomber.
Cassie Beaumont wants the perfect Christmas, which means finding
herself the perfect man to become her husband. She’s 33 and she’s gotten desperate;
desperate enough to hire a professional matchmaker. Simon Dodson is a professional matchmaker, who has quite a reputation. Personally,
he’s very abrupt and straight forward, almost to the point of being rude on
occasion. As a matchmaker, he guarantees that he can find your perfect match or
he’ll give you your money back. There are two things to know about Simon, he’s
very choosy about whom he is willing to take on as a client, and he’s very expensive.
After Simon takes her on as a client, he assigns her three tasks to
complete before he will introduce her to her perfect mate. Her first task is to be a charity bell-ringer. Most people would think
that job would be easy, but nothing is as easy as you think it will be. Her second task is to dress up as Santa’s elf at a mall. So she will
have to wear a costume and deal with kids for a couple hours. It shouldn’t be
too hard, right? The mall had experiences a decline in parents bringing their
children to meet Santa, so the mall decided to make a bit of a production out
of Santa’s arrival. Her third task was to prepare a traditional turkey dinner for her
neighbors. One of the many problems with that one is that she doesn’t like most
of her neighbors. And many of her neighbors don’t like each other! So how is a
dinner with a bunch of people who don’t like each other supposed to help her?
Along the way her friend is giving her advice and her brother pops in
for a visit from time to time. And she starts to fall for Simon! But is she in
love with Simon or is it merely infatuation?
This book is delightful and will have you in stitches laughing at all
the calamities she goes through to finish her tasks to meet her perfect mate
before Christmas. But is it Simon, or the man Simon has picked out for her?
After the story, Macomber has instructions for knitting an infant Santa
Hat, and six recipes.
As an added bonus Macomber includes a short story at the end titled ‘Can
This Be Christmas?’
This story is about what happens when passengers get stuck in a train
depot on Christmas Eve. Each one has family or friends they are trying to hurry
to for Christmas. This is a wonderful story that makes you wonder what you
would do, if you were stuck in a similar situation. You can get this story in book or in e-book format. Enjoy!
