Christmas Movie by Thomas Kinkade

Anybody who has heard of Thomas Kinkade knows that he is the Paint of Light™. He is known for making paintings of cottages, cities, gardens, and landscapes, all with light somewhere in his work. He had branched out and written several books with an author. He also helped with the story of this movie. It’s called Christmas Lodge. They used one of Kinkade’s paintings to create the lodge for the movie.

Mary (Erin Karpluk) takes a trip into the mountains for a weekend getaway dragging along her city loving boyfriend. While out hiking, they come across a young girl who is injured and they help her return home. Come to find out the young girl’s home is the Christmas Lodge. The lodge has been around for several generations as a place to get away from the crowds and rush of the city. Every guest at the lodge was always treated as family.

Mary’s family used to go to Christmas Lodge every year so she has many fond memories there. Her grandparents met there when they were kids. They took their own kids and grandkids there. Only they stopped going to the lodge after Mary’s grandmother died.

The lodge is now run down, and in great need of repairs. Its current descendant, Jack (Michael Shanks) is trying to restore it, but it’s hard with only one man and his young daughter and not much money.

Mary is a sentimental woman. She hates to see beautiful places, like this lodge that has so much history, fall into ruin. Mary really wants to help bring the lodge up to its former glory. Her job, back in the city, is to help restore old buildings. So she knows that restoring it will take time and lots of money. It will take all of Mary’s prayers and persuasion to get the necessary money and man power to get the lodge up and running by Christmas.

There is a lesson in all of this, just because something is old, doesn’t mean that it is worthless or should be left to rot and decay or torn down.

Here is some interesting trivia: Kinkade hid his wife’s initials somewhere in every one of his paintings!

This movie is okay for all ages, and has the dove’s family seal of approval. You can get it on DVD or in instant video formats.
